Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA)
BPA is a historical document signed by 189 governments at the United Nations Fourth World Conference
on Women in Beijing, China, in 1995. The document identifies 12 areas of change to achieve gender
equality. During this ten year period, women have gained some aspects of equality around the world,
but they continue to suffer from many of the same inequalities identified at Beijing. Many governments
have not only failed to implement their commitment to promoting women's equality, but they have created
new obstacles to women's rights. It is time now to hold governments accountable for their failures.

The year 2005 Global Review, called Beijing +10 will review the governments' efforts to implement the
original action of the Beijing Conference and well as Beijing +5 , the political declarations adopted in 2000.
